Every time a child is born, a lady gets her "Mommy Wings"
Well I haven't been blessed with my mommy wings yet, but I got a temporary set a few weeks ago. I realized very quickly why God gives a mommy 9 months to prepare for her child. After a few life changes I was given an opportunity to be a Nanny for two of the most precious boys in the world. Over the last few weeks have and got thrown into life with toddlers, and to over the past couple of months to become part of an amazing family. I realized very quickly how the life of a Mom of toddlers drastically changes from that of a woman without children. I have learned over the years if you cant laugh at yourself then life just isn't worth living.
Here's the story of how I got my temporary "mommy wings"
After a week of cleaning and packing, a week of living out of suitcases, and a week of unpacking in my new apartment, I was finally starting to get settled. I knew that I was going to have the boys for a couple hours after church on Sunday before starting my first week with them and I was so excited. The plan had been to bring them home from church and be with them for a couple of hours, but life changes and things happen and you have to be ready to roll with the punches. Well this particular morning I wasn't moving very fast. I had decided to skip Sunday School and just go for service. I had just gotten out of bed with 45 minutes to be at church when i got a text asking if i could take the boys with me to church. Was not an issue at all except for the fact that I was still in my pjs. So while the boys dad was putting the car-seats in my car, I ran back into the apartment and if there was a world record for getting ready for church, I probably set it, within 4 minutes I was back outside and ready to leave. The boys were buckled in their seats and I drove away thinking okay this wont be too big of a deal. All the way to church we sang songs and talked and had lots of fun. I pulled into the parking lot and got the boys out of their car-seats and with two under the age of four that can be more difficult than it looks. I grabbed the diaper bag slung it over my shoulder and one boy in each hand, which did not leave any free hands for the back of my dress, and on a windy day that can be a bit of a problem, ( if you catch my drift... no pun intended). So i am pretty sure I managed to make it into the nursery without the wind causing me to flash anyone. I dropped the boys off and went back out to the car where i smoothed down my hair and threw on a little bit of foundation an some mascera to look a little presentable, grabbed my bible and headed in for service. When we stood up to sing the first hymn I looked down to adjust my dress, and realized....
My dress was on backwards the whole time!
In being in such a hurry to get dressed I hadnt paid too much attention. It wasnt terribly noticable because the front of the dress looked like the back, except for one having a band of material and one having elastic but I noticed, and felt crazy, but then I realized that is just life with toddlers and chuckled to myself. I gained so much respect for mom's with little ones that day . You really do allow yourself to become last priority, and the lesson learned is, If i have the boys with me for church, I need to set my alarm much earlier :)
